Forensic Anthropology
Casework and Consulting Services
In conjunction with STAFS' mission to advance academic and technical knowledge within the application of the forensic sciences, Dr. Kate Lesciotto offers the following forensic anthropological services to a variety of medico-legal agencies in the Southeast Texas region on a case-by-case basis:
- Human vs. Nonhuman Origin: Establishes medicolegal significance by distinguishing between human and animal skeletal remains or non-skeletal origin of material.
- Biological Profile: Provides an estimation of an individual’s age, sex, ancestry, and stature, based upon laboratory analyses of skeletal remains.
- Skeletal Trauma Analyses: Documents and assesses skeletal remains for evidence of trauma, including timing (ante-, peri-, or postmortem) and type of trauma (blunt force, sharp force, high-velocity projectile (e.g., ballistic), or fire).
Dr. Lesciotto is a certified Diplomate with the American Board of Forensic Anthropology and is currently a Consulting Forensic Anthropologist with the Montgomery County Department of Forensic Services. In addition, Dr. Lesciotto has consulted with local law enforcement agencies in multiple counties across Texas, including the re-examination of cold cases involving skeletal remains.

STAFS provides training to law enforcement agencies covering human osteology, forensic anthropology, and the recovery of human remains from crime scenes.

Dr. Lesciotto is available on a case-by-case basis for skeletal analyses, including re-examination of cold cases and skeletal trauma analysis.
